Ernst Tinaja

Ernst Tinaja

A few miles down Old Ore Road and a short walk up an arroyo lies Ernst Tinaja, a natural limestone basin carved out by the Rio Grande. When the river runs full, a stream of water pours over a limestone shelf and falls onto the rock below. Limestone is inherently soft and so, over time, the water has eroded a hole or basin. The walk to the tinaja took us past some colorful limestone layers and beautiful crystalline lattice work. Nature is quite the artist.
